stabbing

On September 25, 2001 , he was stabbed in the face, neck and back while at a nightclub by the East Coast hip hop rapper , Benzino, and his group, The Made Men.
Can anyone verify this? --Yodakii 02:56:32, 2005-09-10 (UTC)

This is the number one suspect.

The description of Paul Pierce seems slightly exagerrated.

Why?

The story I remember was he was talking to a girl and her brother saw them and took issue with Paul Pierce talking to the girl and stabbed him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.161.130.237 (talk) 00:39, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I removed "This episode happened after he took the camera phone of a fan who wanted to take a picture with him." from the article for the simple fact that nothing in the sourced article (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0009/25/bn.02.html ) matches what was alleged in the sentence it was sourced to. Looks like we've missed this vandalism for quite awhile. I couldn't find who originally did it so I just put in the correct information and put in a reference with it. 69.148.158.112 (talk) 00:04, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

also took out some information, i mistook it for weasel words which its not, but the sentence isn't needed in the paragraph 69.148.158.112 (talk) 00:09, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Amare

When he broke his teeth, a foul was NOT called, I just watched the game film. Anyone can verify this. Although he was clearly HIT.

Using the term "fouled" does not necessarily mean there was an official foul called. In coaching, it's often used a lot in describing an incident.

68.199.98.115 14:24, 7 August 2007 (UTC)There was not an offical foul on the play. Pierce went up and Amare came up underneath him right as Pierce was coming down, thus undercutting him. No foul was called and this led to Celtics' TV Color Commentator Tommy Heinsohn to get all 'riled up' on camera. I don't even know why the Amare incident is on his page anyways?

A lot of people think that the refs in the NBA are racists because in the playoffs abot 2 years ago Tim Duncan was knocked in to the section 1 row 1 seats and the officials didn't care.

The talk page is supposed to be used for finding ways to make the article better, it is not a soap box. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.148.158.112 (talk) 00:21, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

NBA Finals Game 1 Injury

In the 2007-2008 season,i got a boner then I removed the unsourced and untrue rumor that Paul Pierce was "faking" his injury. The following sentence had the words: "(he was faking it)" attached to the end: "Pierce was injured in the third quarter and was carried off the court in serious pain." Anyone who has watched Pierce play for the last ten years, or even just the last ten weeks, knows that Pierce is not the type to fake an injury. On top of that, he explained that he had never injured his knee before and therefore never felt pain like that, and that he is not going to have an MRI done until after the series because he doesn't want to take the chance that there might be something wrong that would keep him out of the rest of the series. That is more or less a direct quote that has been repeated on all sorts of sports-related media stories. The possibility that he was "faking it" is very remote; although it is still *possibly*, any speculation is just that: speculation. What little controversy there is has been cooked up by rabid fan-bases of both teams, and this gossip has no place on Wikipedia at this time until definitive evidence is provided. No definitive evidence has been provided.

Please keep an eye on this section for the next few weeks during the rest of the series and after the series is over, as there will surely be more vandalism. Fermentor (talk) 04:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Just revert the vandalism, and move on. smooth0707 (talk) 02:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Franchise Records?

Someone should correct/remove some of the items under the Franchise Records heading. Many merely list his career stats, which are NOT Celtics records. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.7.241.89 (talk) 23:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Pierce NBA directly from high school

After graduating from Inglewood High School Paul Pierce was asked by the Minnesota Timberwolves to enter the NBA instead of playing college basketball. He denied the opportunity because he felt that he would become better by playing college basketball. There hasn't been many players in the NBA that did not go to college which goes to show that Paul Pierce is a very talented basketball player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigpapi6292 (talkcontribs) 04:41, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

expansions

For Paul Pierce's personal section, I think you could also add that he has formed a partnership with Switch2Health Corp and become a director there- see http://nysportsjournalism.squarespace.com/nba-health-push-12510/ as part of his Truth on Health initiative —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gbhadri (talkcontribs) 22:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

i think that two sections of this article need to be expanded. (1) a few more sentences on the chip on pierce's shoulder after being drafted 10th. stuff like playing harder against those 9 teams and/or a link to the draft list seem appropriate. the draft thing kind of sets up his work ethic and a chip on someone's shoulder is always interesting. (2) the blame placed on pierce with regard to the poor international team showing in 2002. warranted or not, he got a lot of flak and the tournament failure was mentioned quite a bit the following season and when they picked the next team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.15.185.187 (talk) 13:29, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

article

Shouldn't someone change it to say that he is a free agent? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.14.56.177 (talk) 10:26, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

This article is pretty out of control. Anyone care to rewrite it? There is too much POV feel to the whole thing. Pierce's statistics and performances should speak to how "great" of a player he is. I am a Pierce fan, but I still feel this article seems to "fan-written".

Agreed...probably 98% of the players in the NBA are "dedicated and hardworking". They wouldn't be in the league if they weren't. He's a great player, let the numbers speak for themselves.Kgppra17 10:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Revamped the page a little bit. What do you guys think? --MCDRLx 09:17:32, 2006-03-02 (UTC)

the part about winning the Atlantic Div in multiple years is completely wrong.

The part about how Pierce got his nickname "The Truth" is copied almost word for word from an ESPN article here:=i have a boner= http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-071129 If you look back through the history, you can see it was copied from that article the day it was posted (2007-11-29). --Afty 2008-01-29 —Preceding comment was added at 01:50, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Paul Pierce was not cut from the varsity team his sophomore year in high school. I know, because I guarded him that year and he lit us up for 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Style issue

"In the 2005-06 NBA season, Pierce had the highest points-per-shot average among the top 30 scorers in the league, indicating that he is an efficient and consistent player."

Might read better as:

"In the 2005-06 NBA season, Pierce had the highest points-per-shot average among the top 30 scorers in the league, a testament to his offensive efficiency"

Or something to that effect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.103.246.130 (talk) 03:04, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

I'd just delete that "testament to his offensive efficiency" part entirely, unless it is a quote from a reliable source, as it's POV and unecessarily redundant. It's like saying "The bachelor is single". If he's a bachelor, he is obv single. Equally, if Pierce had one of the highest points-per-shot averages in the league, he was obviously good offensively. Vyselink (talk) 08:25, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Thoughts

Maybe it's just me, but I would think under "Career Stats" that it would be appropriate to add his career points total to it, seeing as how, as of now, he is 38th all time (http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/pts_career.html) and on the Celtics career points he is 2nd behind only John Havlicek (http://www.nba.com/celtics/history/Stats_Top10Leaders.html). content questions

What does "11 caps" mean (in the international section) ?

A cap is a game played for one's country. It's usually a term used outside of the United States since soccer, cricket and rugby are played internationally more often than American sports (hockey, football, basketball, baseball). Jordinho (talk) 05:09, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
"Caps" stands for "career appearances", I think. Shinesque (talk) 08:08, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Brooklyn Nets

There are reports of a trade between the Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets including Paul Pierce. Despite these rumors, he has not yet been traded. He cannot be officially traded until July 10 (new league year). Until that time, he is a member of the Boston Celtics. In light of this and the edit war that may be imminent, perhaps this page should be protected until July 10th? --Boston Burkenation (talk) 03:22, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

That does not say that he has signed, just that he plans to sign. It uses future tense like "he’ll be joining". The New York Times said " the deal had not been announced officially" even after he tweeted his decision.[1].—Bagumba (talk) 23:44, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
